Trinity Irish Dance Headband Pattern

TRINITY POODLE HEADBAND
Materials:
White knitting worsted weight, Acrylic only. (Always use acrylic yarn, no wool. These headbands
must be able to stand up to repeated washings. I find the Red Heart brand works very well.
Size 5 knitting needle, or size to get gauge. (You may find the need to adjust the size of the
needle to come to the correct gauge. Depending on how you work, try going up or down one size.)
Gauge: 12 st = 2 1/4inch, 8 rows = 1 inch

Stitch Definitions:
Inc: Increase one stitch by knitting in the front and back loop of one stitch.
Sl 1,K1,psso: Decrease one stitch by slipping one stitch to right needle, knit the second stitch,
pass the first stitch over the second stitch.
K2tog: Decrease one stitch by knitting 2 stitches together.
P3tog: Decrease 2 stitches by purling 3 stitches together.
{K1P1K1}: Blackberry Stitch by knitting 1, purling 1 and knitting 1 all in the same stitch to form a
bump! “In the same stitch” means, knit 1 but don’t slide the stitch off the needle, just draw the
yarn between the needles to the front of the work and purl 1, but still don’t slide the stitch off,
then draw the yarn back between the needles to the back of the work and knit 1. NOW you may
slide the stitch off and continue.

Finishing: When you have finished the piece
and cast off, do not clip yarn off close to the
work, it may unravel! Instead, leave about a 4
inch tail at both ends of the work. Using a
tapestry or needlepoint needle, weave the tail
back through the work about 2 inches in a U.
The same goes for a join of 2 skeins of yarn
in the middle of a piece.
When complete, headband should measure
about 2 1/4 inches wide and 16 inches long.
Finally sew a 2” piece of ¼” elastic to join the
two ends.
